About Me

Games are life (if you're doing it right, at least).I remember trying to make my own games for almost as long as I can remember anything. I think my first attempt at creating a game was a version of Wheel of Fortune that used the magnetic letters from the fridge turned backwards to "hide" them from my parents, who played along like champs. Later, after falling in love with the Zelda II for the Nintendo, I drew up little platformer-style levels on sheets of loose-leaf notebook paper. I "played" through these levels by tracing my finger on the paper, battling in my imagination against hand-drawn monsters and cut-outs of Ninja Turtle characters that I taped to the page as "bosses."
As I grew up, I learned more about game mechanics, played a ton of games (good and bad), got involved in the publishing world, and learned to use graphic design software. These experiences and some pretty exciting shifts in the industry have made it possible for me to begin designing actual games as a hobby—ones that other people can play and enjoy, too! The tools I used became more sophisticated but the spirit remains the same. At heart, I'm still that little kid sitting in my room setting up challenges for myself to conquer. My hope with this blog is to share some insights about game making and the game industry that will help aspiring game makers to realize their dreams, and make better games, and have fun in the process—that's the essence of what games are all about, after all! |
